Welcome to Low Moor Allotments website

Low Moor is one of 16 allotment sites in York which are now run by York Allotments Charitable Incorporated Organisation. It’s one of the biggest, with over 250 tenants occupying its 170 plots. There’s an active allotment association, which maintains this website. As this is an open site, individual plots are fenced or hedged, but there are still plenty of opportunities to get to know your plot neighbours. There’s a well-stocked allotment shop and award-winning children’s allotment.

Tenants choose to use the space they rent in many different ways. YACIO stipulates that plots are primarily used for cultivation, especially vegetables and fruiting trees and bushes, but space can be used for flowers and a proportion for encouraging wildlife.

There’s easy access on foot and bike from the University of York, Heslington Road and the Fulford Road area. Click here for more details of where we are.

This website is aimed not only at tenants, both the well-established and newly-arrived, but also interested members of the public. The focus is on Low Moor itself – its facilities, people and history: it’s not a growing guide – there’s plenty of more expert information about to tell you how to garden!
